Speakers:

STEPHEN BUTLER
Barrister | Outer Temple Chambers
Stephen advises and represents clients in commercial disputes around the world. He has spent time living and working in Dubai on secondment to a UAE-based law firm, and acts in litigation in the Middle East as well as the English courts. He has experience of arbitration and litigation before the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Dubai International Arbitration Centre and the United National Appeal Tribunal. Stephen has written and presented on the legal treatment of cryptoassets and smart contracts in the UK and abroad. He has a particular interest in the intersection of financial services law and regulation with broader commercial claims.

CHLOË BELL
Barrister | Outer Temple Chambers
Chloë joined chambers in 2017 and is developing a general commercial practice. She has appeared as counsel in national and international courts in a variety of commercial and financial services disputes. She has a particular understanding of the role of regulators in financial services having spent 3 months at the UK Financial Conduct Authority in 2019. Prior to commencing practice Chloë was a judicial assistant to Lord Mance at the UK Supreme Court between 2017-2018 and a référendaire at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg between 2015-2016. Chloë has written about and presented on the topics of cryptoassets and smart contracts in the UK and abroad. She has also published in other areas of commercial law such as contractual discretions and good faith.
