Saima Hanif is listed in the legal directories as a leading junior in financial services and commercial law. She has been involved in several high-profile global disputes including 1 MDB, the Forex manipulation scandal and proceedings arising out of the collapse of Abraaj.
Saima is currently instructed in the widely publicised SKAT ‘dividend arbitrage’ litigation and is instructed in Canadian proceedings as a legal expert on UK financial services law. Sophia has a broad practice spanning litigation and international arbitration in all areas of 3VB’s work, including banking, financial services, insolvency, privacy and commercial disputes of all sizes. For 6 months in 2019, Sophia was a Judicial Assistant at the London Commercial Court, and was exposed to hearings from lengthy trials to urgent applications.
Since 2018 Sophia has acted for a Dubai-based defendant group in SKAT v Solo Capital Ltd & Ors, a multi-billion tax-fraud claim by Denmark’s tax authority. Acted for Sir Frederick and Amanda Barclay in urgent injunctions, and private and conspiracy claims against family members and a Barclay Group executive. Junior to Sir Ross Cranston in 2019 review of Lloyds’ handling of victims of criminal misconduct at HBOS. Obtained £14m judgment with Adam Kramer in Acorn UK Finance Ltd v Markel, insurance-fraud trial.
Sophia recently co-authored “Bank Resolution: Key Issues and Local Perspectives” for INSOL with Hodge Malek QC and James Potts.
