DIFC Academy and leading international legal education provider BARBRI have agreed to jointly deliver preparatory training for the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS) and Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) paving the way for attorneys in the GCC and Jordan to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales.
The QLTS is a series of tests recognised by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority of England and Wales, and is designed for foreign licensed lawyers seeking re-qualification to practice in the legal jurisdiction of both UK countries England & Wales.
QLTS Exam Stages
The QLTS Exam consists of two stages:
- QLTS MCT – Multiple Choice Test
- QLTS OSCE – Objective Structured Clinical Examination
Candidates must first pass the QLTS MCT before proceeding to the QLTS OSCE.
QLTS MCT EXAM
Offered in July and January each year
The QLTS MCT exam is a multiple choice test which consists of 180 multiple-choice questions. The assessment is divided into 2 sessions of 2 hours 45 minutes each, with 90 questions in each session. A break of 60 minutes is provided between the sessions during which time candidates may leave the test centre.
Kaplan QLTS is the sole authorised exam assessment provider. The actual multiple choice exam is a computer-based assessment administered by PearsonVue. Please note that, as the assessment provider, Kaplan QLTS is not authorised to provide QLTS preparation courses.
QLTS OSCE EXAM
After passing QLTS MCT, you will then be eligible to apply and sit QLTS OSCE. QLTS OSCE is offered in November and May/June.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is the governing body that determines the outcomes which candidates must demonstrate on the exam. BARBRI and the DIFC Academy always recommends that candidates visit the SRA website for any recent revisions.
Registration is open for the MCT prep course in preparation for the January 2021 exam. Classes will start on October 12, 2020 for the 3-month programme.
Course Fee: £1,850
Registration is open for the OSCE prep course in preparation for the November 2020 exam. Classes started on August 3, 2020.
Course Fee: £2,400 (£1,950 if you have taken the MCT prep course with BARBRI)
SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Exam)
In September 2021, the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) are being phased out. They will be replaced by the new Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE). With that change comes an entirely new way of testing your legal knowledge and lawyering skills.
SQE stages: SQE1 and SQE2
SQE1 is a computer-based functioning legal knowledge assessment which consists of 2 exams of 180 multiple-choice questions, 360 in total. SQE1 combines substantive and procedural law, and is a test of candidates functioning legal knowledge, i.e. application, problem solving and decision making. Both examinations must be taken in single assessment window.
The SQE1 exam fee, payable to the exam provider (KAPLAN), is £1,558.
First course to launch on January 2021 for the November 2021 exam
