Join LexisNexis Middle East and DIFC Academy, SOL International Ltd and Middlesex University for our ‘Legal Drafting Skills: A Masterclass’ online training series where our experts will look at:
- Part 1: Basic written and speaking communication – Principles and conventions of effective drafting in English common law
- Part 2: Drafting Pleadings – English legal drafting
- Part 3: Drafting contracts – English legal drafting
PROGRAMME
Day 1 (April 22): Basic Written and Speaking Communication – Principles and Conventions of Effective Drafting in English Common Law
This section will enable participants to understand the foundations and principles of effective legal drafting and appropriate communication. The session will involve hands on applications of pre drafting conference and negotiations, legal drafting of basic documents required including correspondence, emails, memos, etc.
The first part of the session will cover basic written and speaking communication etiquette, the fundamental principles of drafting basic legal professional documentation in the framework of effective communication between parties, clients and colleagues. A range of examples will be shared during this session.
In the second part of the session, participants will apply the above foundations and principles to working examples and case studies, in order to improve confidence and get hands on exposure to professional communication.
Day 2 (April 23): Draft Pleadings – English Legal Drafting
This section will enable participants to understand and apply principles and conventions of formal legal communication for drafting pleadings. The session will involve hands on applications of legal drafting focusing on particulars of claim, Defense, and skeleton arguments.
The first part of the session will cover the fundamental principles of basic legal drafting required at the stage of drafting legal pleadings. A range of examples will be shared during this session
In the second part of the session, participants will apply the above conventions to working examples and case studies, in order to improve confidence and get hands on experience in legal drafting required during contract negotiation.
Day 3 (April 24): Drafting Contracts – English Legal Drafting
This section will enable participants to understand and apply principles and methodology of creating a contract structure and drafting clauses for commercial agreements. The session will build on the two previous ones and involve hands on applications of legal drafting focusing on the structure and the terms of commercial agreements.
The first part of the session will introduce the methodology to be followed when finalising the structure and drafting the clauses of contracts. Examples will be shared during this session.
In the second part of the session, participants will apply the above methodology to working examples in order to improve confidence and get hands on experience in legal drafting required during contract agreement.
