DIFC Academy announced the appointment of the Editorial Board members for the DIFC Academy – School of Law publications. In the coming months, the Editorial Board will be responsible for working with our publishing partner, LexisNexis to produce Volume 4 of the DIFC Law Commentaries, in addition to revising Volume 1. These are high quality reference books for lawyers, judges, academics and students relating to DIFC Statutory Laws and evolving body of Common Law.

Jacques Visser, Chief Legal Officer at DIFC Authority

Jacques Visser has over 20 years of experience as a financial services lawyer. In addition to heading the Legal Affairs division of the DIFC Authority, he holds the position of Secretary to the DIFC Higher Board and the Boards of the DIFC Authority and DIFC Investments Ltd. Mr. Visser also currently serves as DIFC’s Security Registrar and Commissioner of Data Protection.

David Russell QC, Barrister at Outer Temple Chambers

David is a renowned Barrister who commenced legal practice in 1974. He currently practices in Dubai, London, and Sydney. David is a former President of the Asia Oceania Tax Consultants Association, and former Deputy Chair and Director of STEP Worldwide. He is co-editor of the Oxford University Press Journal Trusts and Trustees, and from 2016 to 2017 chaired the DIFC Wealth Management Review Working Group.

Ayesha Bin Kalban, Assistant Registrar & Deputy Small Claims Tribunal Registrar at DIFC Courts

Currently oversees the progression of the DIFC Court’s Small Claims Tribunal where she also sits as a judge and mediator. Additionally, experienced in hearing applications in the Court of First Instance, Court of Appeal and the Enforcement Department.

Lori Baker, Vice President - Legal & Director of Data Protection at DIFC Authority

An experienced UK and US qualified attorney with expertise in data protection and regulatory compliance, as well as broad practice in commercial contracting, Lori now provides data protection and security strategy and support for the DIFC Authority.

Tanuja Paramasivam, Senior Vice President – Legal at DIFC Authority

Tanuja has over 19 years of experience as a corporate commercial lawyer and over 15 years’ experience in strategic policy development and regulation. Her role involves drafting certain DIFC laws whilst providing legal counsel to a number of business units within the DIFC Authority and subsidiaries.
