The DIFC Mandatory courses draw upon the expertise of the DIFC Academy of Law specialists on DIFC Laws. This 2-hour lecture covers DIFC Prescribed Company Regulations Law, DIFC Law. It will benefit DIFC registered practitioners, other lawyers and in-house counsels who would like an overview of the regulation and application process. 2 DIFC Mandatory/ Accredited CLPD points will be awarded upon completion of this course.

Senior Vice President- Legal | DIFC Authority

Tanuja joined DIFC Authority in March 2012 as Senior Legal Counsel.  In her current role as Senior Vice President she is responsible for providing legal advice to a number of business units (including the Registrar of Companies, the Human Resources Department, Finance Department and Strategy Department), as well as amending and updating existing DIFC Laws and drafting new DIFC laws such as the Companies Law, Operating Law, Prescribed Company Regulations, Ultimate Beneficial Ownership Regulations and the Netting Law. Tanuja also provides legal advice to DIFC Investments LLC (“DIFCI”), DIFC Authority’s subsidiary and investment arm. 

In addition to her role as Senior Vice President - Legal, Tanuja fulfils the function of Group Board Secretary to the DIFC Authority, DIFCI and Art Dubai FZ LLC Boards.   Tanuja also provides corporate governance advice to the Board and Senior Management of DIFC Authority, DIFCI and its numerous subsidiaries. 

Tanuja has over 19 years of experience as a corporate commercial lawyer and over 15 years’ experience in strategic policy development and regulation. During her time at the DIFC Authority, Tanuja was closely involved in DIFCI’s USD 700 million Sukuk Issuance in November 2014 and the refinancing of DIFCI’s US$1.25 billion Sukuk which matured in June 2012. 

Tanuja’s legal and policy experience includes time spent with Tecom Investments in Dubai as well as the Queensland Government and private law firms in Australia. 

Tanuja holds Bachelor of Laws (Hon) and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Sydney, Australia. Tanuja is admitted to practice in the High Court and Federal Court of Australia, as well as the New South Wales and Queensland Supreme Courts of Australia. 

 

Alya Al Zarouni

Executive Vice President- Operations | DIFC Authority

In her role as Executive Vice President of Operations, Alya Al Zarouni oversees a number of internal functions, including Information Technology, Procurement, Administration, Corporate Development, Government Relations, Government and Registry Services. Her prime objective is to ensure DIFC Authority’s internal operations are well aligned to support the delivery of the 2024 Strategy and objectives.

Prior to this role, Ms. Al Zarouni held the position of Senior Vice President – Operations at DIFC Authority, and before that was Senior Vice President - Government & Registry Services for five years. In this capacity, she was responsible for driving the strategic direction across the organisations Government Services, Registrar of Companies and Registrar of Properties offices.

Before this, Ms. Al Zarouni worked with the Programme Management Office at DIFC Authority, where she rose from Assistant Manager to Director of Government Services Office. During her tenure, she partly managed and assisted project managers in handling a number of complex projects in the Centre.

Ms. Al Zarouni earned both her BSc in Computer Science and MBA from the American University of Sharjah. She is a PMI Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), an LRQA certified ISO 9000:2000 Series Auditor/ Lead, and an LRQA Certified Internal QMS Auditor. Ms. Al Zarouni has also successfully completed the Young Leaders Program from the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Leadership Development.
