With the development in generative artificial intelligence (AI) and instant popularity of tools such as ChatGPT, most sectors of the economy are trying to figure out how the technology applies to them. In the same way, legal professionals are beginning to explore the potential uses of artificial intelligence in the study and practice of law.
Tools that can reasonably be interpreted as AI have penetrated the legal industry, ranging from applications that assess civil action probabilities and profitability to tools that help law practitioners with researching and writing briefs. Law has long been seen as an industry that is ready for technological disruption, whether it be via AI or other tools. However, industry practitioners seem divided on whether ChatGPT represents an evolution or simply more of the same. Additionally, the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT in the legal industry must be examined through an ethical or professional responsibility lens.
In this course, speakers will dive deep into what Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are, the benefits and drawbacks of using them, as well as ChatGPT’s implications on the future of artificial intelligence. The course will also tackle the need for legal professionals and firms to have a risk management program when using AI systems and the demand to create a working code of ethics for AI use.
