The DIFC Dispute Resolution Authority Academy of Law was established in 2015 as an independent entity to provide services to the DIFC Courts and the UAE legal community. Its core functions include regulating and training lawyers, publishing academic literature, hosting events for the legal community, and providing pro bono legal advice for people in need.
Why join the Academy of Law’s Register of Practitioners?
The Academy of Law is contemplating launching a new fee structure for registrations and renewals of Part II practitioners, occurring or due on or after 1 June 2017. Registration grants law firms and individual lawyers the right to practice in the DIFC Courts. Upon registration, practitioners become part of a growing network of over 400 Practitioners and 130 law firms, and benefit from discounts on training courses, lectures, conferences, and publications.
Another beneficial community service provided by the Academy is providing access to justice to people who lack the means to retain a lawyer through the first pro bono program in the Middle East. Clinics are held once per week, and volunteer lawyers provide legal consultation to people facing legal issues arising within the DIFC geographic area or under DIFC laws. The Academy also supports the development of the next generation of legal professionals by offering scholarships to Emirati and expatriate law students to attend the Academy’s training programmes, in the form of waived tuition or discounted rates.
The Academy’s interest in developing these programs is aligned with its broader objectives of contributing to the development of the rule of law and the legal system as a foundation for commercial enterprise and economic development.
